There are three dams in the area where angling is available to the general public and two dams where boating and sailing are permitted. Tzaneen Dam: Boating is permitted on most of the dam surface. However there are buoyed areas, which are sanctuaries for bird life and where no boats are allowed. There is a slipway at the boating club, which is reached via Aqua Lane - Aqua Park suburb. Angling is available at Tzaneen Dam and the main species on offer are eel, barbell, carp, black bass, kurper and yellowfish. Ebenezer Dam: Boating is permitted but launching sites are scarce. There are slipways at the picnic sites; the one near the dam wall is signposted; the other is along an unmarked gravel road leading of the R71, 2km from Haenertsburg. Further information available from The Mountain Yacht Club or the Water Board, Tel: (015) 276 4200. Angling is also available and trout, kurper, eel, barbell and black bass may be caught. Stanford Lake: R71 from Haenertsburg towards Tzaneen, 3km before Magoebaskloof Hotel. This dam is stocked with trout. Day permits available from Stanford College. All anglers over the age of 16 require a Provincial Fishing Licence and these are available from the following: a) The Magistrate's Office (08:00 - 13:00), Morgan St, Tzaneen, Tel: (015) 307 3770 b) Boulevard Cycles (business hours), Sanlam Center, Tzaneen. |
